Dance Spirit (popularly known as Salsa Spirit) was co-founded in 2005 by Davina Gaddin-Xenophontos and Emmanuel Sowah – a.k.a DJ E-Kins with the vision to spread the love of dance throughout Africa and the rest of the world.
Dance Spirit is a dance school situated in South Africa. The school teaches and promotes salsa, bachata, Kizomba, Semba, Zouk, Merengue, Reggaeton, Afro-Beat and other Afro-Latino dance forms that have taken the world by storm.
The founders of Dance Spirit believe in taking dancing out of the dance studio and into the streets where people from all walks of life can express, experience and free their dance spirit in these various styles of dance rooted in passionate music and body movements.
Davina was a devoted member, the heart and soul of the dance school and remains the guiding spirit.
Emmanuel is from a family of dancers in Accra, Ghana. His passion for dancing and music emanates from a young age.
Dance Spirit brings people together weekly to enjoy these great, fun dances in the form of organised lessons and socials after the lessons. Monthly parties are hosted at various venues around Johannesburg and Pretoria where students have an opportunity to showcase their moves.
Dance Spirit members seek to expand their dance knowledge and promote dance by visiting and partaking in dance festivals and workshops in Durban and Cape Town, as well as other African destinations such as Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Mozambique to name a few.
